To Whom Do Our Bodies Belong?
The premise upon which the heinous practice of abortion is justifed in our day is that a woman's body is her own. Is it really? The right of ownership is based upon three foundations: one owns something because he either purchased it, made it, or received it as a gift. Since no woman purchased or made her own body, she has received it as a gift from God. But she has received her body, as men also have, from a Sovereign Creator who has made all things for His own purpose and glory (Rev. 4:11). For anyone to claim absolute right over his or her body is to usurp the sovereignty that belongs to Him alone (Ps. 24:1).
Mankind received his body from the LORD who formed it from dust of the earth and into which He breathed the breath of life, making him a living soul (Gen. 2:7). God then took the woman from man's side and presented her to him as his wife (Gen. 2:22-24). This creative act not only established that marriage is to be between a man and woman only, but settled the issue of the ownership of the body. Since one's body belongs to the Lord, He alone has the right to prescribe the proper use of the body. On that account, one may not sell his body, destroy the body, mark it with tatoos, abuse it, or do anything that debases the body.
A woman is given the responsibility to keep her body chaste by abstaining from unlawful sexual activity. Because of prmomiscous conduct. Many women and girls become pregnant out of wedlock. The solution of choice for this problem today is an abortion, and the rational for murdering an unborn baby is that her body is her own, and she can do what she will with it. Wrong! No one has the right to extricate himself from an unpleasant situation by taking the life of another person. This practice is a blight upon any nation and will bring God's judgment upon them, no matter how cleverly its citizens try to justify it.
