The Only True God

Isaiah 44:6 declares, “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last: and beside me there is no God.” The LORD further states, “. . .Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God: I know not any (Isa. 44:8). The Apostle Paul wrote, “. . .there is none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him” (1 Cor. 8:5-7). Both the Old and New Testaments consistently teach that there is but one true God who as the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit are still but one God (1 John 5:7).

There being but one true God whose name is Jehovah, it follows that all other so-called gods are but idols or the figments of men's imaginations. Baal was called god by the Zidonians, but the Prophet Elijah exposed Baal as nothing more than a hoax in the contest at Mt. Carmel (1 Kings 18:21-39). Because Jehovah alone answered by fire, the people proclaimed, “The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God. Men have devised other gods—such as the ancient Bel, Chemosh, Dagon, Molech, or the more modern Allah , Vishnu, Siva—but all are false gods.

To the above statements, someone will inevitably respond, “But that is just your opinion.” What is said above is not a personal opinion; it is the revelation of the only true God who is all-knowing. When He says there is no other God but He, there is no other God. For anyone to assert there are others besides Jehovah who are also God, is an opinion for which there is no Biblical evidence. What if some do not believe? “. . .Let God be true, but every man a liar. . .” (Rom. 3:4).
